Meet The President

Janah A. Risha, SE - President

Mr. Risha specializes in large scale design and trouble‐shooting the hard‐to‐build, highly technical projects.  He has been practicing structural engineering for over 20 years and has extensive experience designing structural systems for diversified building projects. His portfolio includes structural engineering for numerous building projects, performing structural design in steel, concrete, masonry, and timber. Mr. Risha has designed structural rehabilitation and seismic strengthening schemes for numerous buildings, supervising the preparation of plans, details, and specifications. In addition to traditional building projects, Mr. Risha has also been providing Structural Engineering design and construction documents for the Motion Picture and Television industry since 1994.

Mr. Risha currently serves as the President of the Structural Engineers Association of Southern California (SEAOSC). He has been a member of SEAOSC since 1988, and has been deeply involved in the organization, serving on the Existing Buildings Committee and Building Code Committee prior to taking on leadership roles. In 2009, he committed to the four‐year presidential period and began by serving as the association’s Treasurer from 2009 to 2010 and as President‐Elect the following year. After his current term as President, Mr. Risha will continue to serve the organization as Past President from 2012 to 2013.

In addition to his role as President of SEAOSC, Mr. Risha is a member of the Board of Directors and Secretary of the Structural Engineers Association of California (SEAOC). He is a former member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Standards Committee on Seismic Rehabilitation of Building Structures and the Committee on the Condition Assessment of Existing Buildings. He also served as chair of the SEAOC Code Streamlining Committee, whose efforts resulted in the publication of the “Earthquake Design Manual for Low Rise Building Structures.”
